What’s up, tar dwellers. We hope you’re all hanging in there. This new “Reviews and Other Rambles” episode marks what should be the last shift in our podcast format. We’ve been keeping steady at one episode every two weeks, but we’re going to alter that to one episode every three. The reason being that our personal lives have been sapping up more of our free time, and it’s been tough to keep pace with the biweekly output.
That being said, we’ve added some more coverage to this episode (i.e., more bands) to offset our change in schedule. We’ll be sure to keep each future episode a touch lengthier so that we can maintain momentum with the stupid number of solid releases that have been trickling out the first quarter of 2022. In this episode, we ramble about noises that are sopping and putrid, warped and rhythmic, chill, dreamlike, and excoriating. You can find all of the artists we chat about, in roughly chronological order, in the list down below.

Segment 01: Band Developments
The new Carpenter Brut LP, Leather Terror, will release on April 1, 2022. The album’s lead single, “Imaginary Fire”, features Greg Puciato of Dillinger Escape Plan and The Black Queen fame.
All Them Witches announced a new project for 2022. They describe it as a “baker’s dozen”, where they will release one new track each month for the year (plus one extra). The first song they dropped, “Blacksnake Blues“, debuted on January 28, 2022. Just a couple of days ago, they released their second track, “Fall Into Place“.
Other random topics, like the When We Were Young Fest, Honeymoon Fest, Every Time I Die disbanding, etc.
Segment 02: New(-ish) Tracks
“It’s time to rest my friend. (The Rainbow Bridge is Calling)” from Hermit Knight
Equip your mithril armor and prepare to bludgeon some goblins (or, as we like to call them, keister creepers). This is a heartfelt tribute to Hermit Knight’s companion, Charlie the Bunny Rabbit. Effervescent fantasy synth that’s cozy on the ears.
“OBSSSD DPRSSD” from Heat Deth
The debut single from Cam Lofstrand’s solo electronic outfit, Heat Deth. A succinct sewer crawl through punchy beats and sludge-riddled atmospherics. Expect a full album’s worth of material sometime this year.
“The Abysmal Eye” from Meshuggah
This one speaks for itself. The lead single off of Meshuggah’s upcoming LP, Immutable, which will be out April 1, 2022.
“Jump!! (Or Get Jumped!!!)((by the future))” from Soul Glo
Caffeinated and blistering hardcore punk from Philly’s Soul Glo. They have a new album, Diaspora Problems, releasing March 25, 2022.

Rhino Body Lover’s A Tribute to Shallow North Dakota Comp
A tribute compilation to Shallow North Dakota, the revered Ontario noise rockers. Features covers from bands like Intercourse, Fuck the Facts, The Grasshopper Lies Heavy, Tunic, and many others.
Segment 04: Weird Bandcamp Picks
Six Ton Stone’s Solid Feces
It sounds exactly like the band name suggests. It has a few funny track titles and lyrics.
Serotonin Leakage’s Mescaline Power
Goregrind-brewed vaporwave. Polar-opposite flavors of music that somehow blend superbly.
Segment 05: Forgotten Recents
Andrew Black’s Hypnopompia
Chilled and dreamy experimental electronic from the Portland solo artist, Andrew Black. He’s played bass live with Mizmor in the past, and even released a collab effort with Mizmor—titled Dialetheia—back in November 2020.
The Sway of the Mountains’ All the Colour Stains the Light
A mysterious solo project from South Africa. Proggy instrumental compositions where each track pairs to the eponymous poem’s stanza.
Coilguns’ Shunners/Burrows
A two-track detonation from Switzerland’s chaotic hardcore quartet, Coilguns. Maybe they have a new full-length on the way?
Segment 06: Albums of Focus
Hippotraktor - Meridian

The debut LP from Belgium’s post-metal quintet, Hippotraktor. Heady and dense aural constructs with a philosophical throughline. We try to answer the burning question, is the tractor in the shape of a hippo, or is the hippo driving the tractor?
Foxtails - Fawn

The fourth full-length from the “bunch of fucked up kids from CT.” Experimental screamo that is as off-kilter and jagged as it’s lush and stirring.
Dormant Ordeal - The Grand Scheme of Things

The third full-length from Poland’s death metal trio. Weirdly melodic, progressive, and inspiring, as if the riffs and lyrics are painting a shimmering world that hums in liminal space.
Yuggot - Far Lost Home

The debut EP from the Lovecraft-inspired dark synth/black metal duo known as Yuggot. Little is known about the project, but it features a keen attention toward bleak synth textures, voracious vocals, and hammering drum rhythms.
