Sup, discharge danglers! We hope you’re all keeping well. Welcome back to another podcast episode, wherein we ramble for a couple of hours about some music we’ve been enjoying for the past several weeks. Granted, most of the material covered in this one dates back to February/March 2022, but we hope there is a neat find or two awaiting you in the discussion.

We cover releases extending from The Callous Daoboys and Artificial Brain to Spider God and Drug Church. Balmy grungecore, sludgy noise rock, rambunctious hardcore punk, and bludgeoning black metal but scratch the exterior of what’s blathered about. Below you will find the full list of what we cover throughout the episode’s duration. Timestamps are provided for each single, EP, or album, in case you want to jump to any particular segment of the conversation.

If you have some artists, albums, singles, or any other form of musical media you’d like us to consider for an upcoming episode, please feel free to send us an email or reach out at one of our various social media channels. Thank you all so much for your continued support!

Segment 01: Band Developments

Brief rambles about upcoming music

One of our favorite hardcore punk bands, Rattleback, recorded their sophomore record, and we’re eagerly anticipating its release.

Metalocalypse is returning with a movie, and alongside it, a new Dethklok album. The release date is unknown at the moment.

Segment 02: New(-ish) Tracks

Rambles about relatively fresh tracks
The Callous Daoboys – “A Brief Article Regarding Time Loops” (00:14:25)

The first piece of new music we’ve heard from the eccentric mathcore septet, The Callous Daoboys, in about three years (their debut LP, Die on Mars, dropped in June 2019). No new details have been divulged regarding their sophomore album (yet).

Insanity Check – “Räjähdysaltis” (00:20:34)

Black synth metal with traces of vaporwave. Per the artist, this track “is about impulsiveness and the conscious decision of using substances to lower your threshold to self-destructive behavior.”

Steaksauce Mustache – “Floppy Disk Function” (00:24:06)

The second single off of the chaotic partycore’s latest record, All Juice, No Noise, out via Silent Pendulum Records. The full album dropped on May 13, 2022.

Artificial Brain – “Celestial Cyst” (00:30:50)

The lead single from the technical death metal quintet’s forthcoming self-titled album. This is the last Artificial Brain record with Will Smith on vocals. The album will be out June 3, 2022 via Profound Lore Records.

Segment 03: EPs, Splits, and/or Demos

Rambles about some newer bite-sized releases

Drug Church – Hygiene (00:37:20)

The fourth full-length offering from Albany’s grungecore outfit, Drug Church. Blissful melodies and balmy hooks. Hygiene dropped on March 11, 2022 via Pure Noise Records.

Spider God – Ett främmande språk / A Foreign Tongue (00:41:10)

The third EP to conclude Spider God’s trilogy based upon Ingmar Bergman’s Faith films. The first EP, The Interior Castle, was released back in October 2020, followed by Shadowless Light in September 2021. A Foreign Tongue debuted on April 1, 2022.

Segment 04: Weird Bandcamp Picks

Random, and usually strange, finds from our Bandcamp dredging

Webdriver Torso – Data Tribes (00:48:14)

The debut EP from Melbourne’s one-man slamming brutal death metal project, Webdriver Torso. A compact, sub-10-minute barrage of stampeding blast beats, electronic aberrations, and asphyxiating riffs. This was released via Lifeless Chasm Records on March 14, 2022.

Misanthropik Torment – #KillYourLocalPedophile (00:51:58)

The latest LP from Kentucky’s blackened death metal outfit. The record’s name speaks for itself. This one is dropping July 4, 2022 via the band’s own label, Misanthropik Records.

Mutilation Barbecue – Mutilation Barbecue (00:54:55)

A succulent death metal EP from Cleveland’s Mutilation Barbecue. Some of the group’s members are shared with the death-thrash troupe known as Subtype Zero. This self-titled release came out via Maggot Stomp on April 1, 2022.

Segment 05: Forgotten Recents

Records we've been digging, but don't have the time for a deep dive

Eye Flys – Exigent Circumstance (00:59:04)

Chunky and churning noise rock sludge from Philadelphia’s Eye Flys. This four-track EP, released by Closed Casket Activities, debuted in November 2021, about a year-and-a-half after their debut full-length, Tub of Lard.

Beyond the Grasp of Light – Hell (01:04:58)

The debut EP from Philadelphia’s solo project, Beyond the Grasp of Light, helmed by Brandon Baun (Capa, Sorrowing). Fiendish and scathing, while simultaneously harboring peculiar hypnotic qualities. This one was self-released on February 10, 2022.

Records we dive into with some depth (in order of episode appearance)

Messa - Close

Timestamp in episode: 01:34:04

The third record from Italy’s “scarlet doom” quartet, Messa. Mergings of dark ambient atmosphere, black metal, prog, blues, and a sundry of other timbres, cemented in a doom metal bedrock. Out via Svart Records (March 11, 2022).

Timestamp in episode: 01:42:56

The sophomore record from the Bay Area’s profaned black metal trio, Black Fucking Cancer. Relentless, bludgeoning, and rampageous. Out via Sentient Ruin Laboratories (March 18, 2022).
